Provides information about how the heart responds to exertion. Your doctor can determine many things from this test – adequate blood flow during increasing levels of activity, effectiveness of your heart medications or prior procedures, determine the likelihood of having coronary heart disease and the need for further evaluation, just to name a few.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT: An IV is placed. This test involves walking on a treadmill at speed and incline while your electrocardiogram, heart rate and blood pressure are monitored. This test lasts less than an hour and patients are asked to not eat 4 hours prior to the test.
